Remember the Tioronda Bridge and the rush the previous administration was in to have it removed? The city administrator at the time, Joe Braun, was adamant about the need to removeit as we needed to build a new wider and stronger span to accomodate emergency vehicles. Never mind that the Tioronda Bridge was one of two such historic bridges left in the state, and that even wiht a new bridge, most emergency vehicles wouldn't be able to squeeze through the RR underpass a few hundred feet away from the bridge. So, despite its status on the National Register of Historic Places, the bridge was removed and the bow string truss sections stored on private property near East Main street. Now that the property is being developed, the truss's had to be moved and are now piled on top of one another next to the gate of the city Transfer Station.

Yet another historic artifact allowed to disintegrate before our eyes...At this point Im not sure what could be salvaged from this pile of rusting iron. Any conservators out there willing to take a shot?

Who was 'taking care of it" and who dumped it there?

What a disturbing, and sad story.

The first subdivision of Polo Field was in 1989. The more extensive subdivsion of the property was in 2004. What year was the bridge removed?

It's best to argue with facts. The Bridge was removed long after the houses in the Polo Fields were built. And the houses there are hardly McMansions, unless that class of residence has been seriously downsized.

tom: where do you get your information?

on another thread you also said that the mta was going to revive the beacon line in ten years, which i find implausible, but certainly hope is true

but this is great stuff, i hope its true!

I heard that the city got a grant to re-build it recently and is going to start on that soon.
