I think the T.O.D. deserves a write up in PoJo. Someone who can neutrally sum up the positions for and against it. And they can make a little cash for the effort.
kevin: you guys obviously care about beacon, and you spent a lot of effort on that site, and i hope you use it to get some concessions out of the mta, so i wish y'all luck
however: you're all absolutely nuts if you think 1,000 relatively affluent new residents 1/4 mile from main street is somehow going to hurt main street business, even if the entire ground floor were a walmart. its the network effect: more is more, plain and simple. the TOD will aid main street business, its elementary
additionally, a dense development right next to a train station is about as environmentally friendly a development as you can possibly get. this is the model all development should follow. its the polar opposite of environment-destroying suburban sprawl and strip malls. traffic on 9d is a temporary side effect: we still use cars, but we're preparing for a carless existence with transit-centered development
but please, fight the good fight, make the MTA cough up some concessions, power to you
but i hope you guys recognize that its pretty evident that the TOD is solidly main street business friendly and solidly environmentally friendly
