Beacon as a watershed

Does anyone know how we are protecting Beacon's watershead? There was a great piece on Frontline on PBS www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/poisonedwaters/
and I wondered how are we protecting it?
One thing I found was Beacon does not have laws on building on lots, meaning someone buyi… Continue

Any codes/laws on burning things in your yard?

wondering if anyone knows about what can't be burned in your yard? some of my neighbors think it's ok to burn cardboard, old wood etc in those fire pits. from what I undertstand, this is really bad for air quality and overall the enviroment. it seems to be a trend around here .some times it smells like a warehouse fire and the flames were touching the trees. anyone have this problem or know of any codes? I know it's a old school way of doing things, but I think it was found to be bad news. who d… Continue

MTA fare hike. Shouldn't we be concerned?

As it stands unless Albany steps in, MTA will raise fares and this would effect anyone coming and going to Beacon via train esp. commuters.
The price would be according to one report 30 % increasing which is another 50.oo added to a monthy pass. I'm sure to some this would be a push to do more work from home or join coworkers group, but not all can do that. There are families who are struggling and can't do another 50.00.
Also I wonder if this could have an effect on people moving here. People h… Continue

Hi Dana, Somehow I didn't see your response until just now. I've also gotten a 2 for 1 offer from Garden Gate, which I like even more. So far no one else has expressed interest, so the fee might just be split into two. If you're still interested, send me your address by e-mail: martoraj@earthlink.net. Best, Joan

sorry I didn't see this earlier.

I think the reason is because they are supporting someone other than Ron Ray for county legislature ... but also support Jerry Landisi for city council.

Hi Dana,
Nice to see you on BCN. Yes, there will be drop in classes eventually, look for this in the coming months. Music classes are in 6wk sessions, and Art classes are in 4 and 6wk sessions. Each class is an hour in length.
Now that the weather is nicer, maybe I'll see you on the Main STrip!

These are terrific photos! I just joined this network and you are my first comment, so I hope I'm doing this right. Julie says you recommended me for a cookbook project; did I get that right? Thank you nonetheless; all work is good work. I'd love to meet up again for coffee soon.
Best,
Jennifer
