Opening reception at 400 Square - Contemporary Photography
400 Square, a Contemporary Photography gallery, located in Beacon, NY is proud to present 'Alternative Processes in a Contemporary World' beginning March 14, 2009. The exhibit, which runs through April 30, 2009, will show the work of four women photographers who specialize in alternative process photography using techniques such as Encaustic, Pinhole and Through The Viewfinder (TTV).
The artists, three of whom live in Beacon -- Denise DeVore, Donna Francis and Kristy Reichert -- and one in Cold Spring, Jennifer Koenig, have devoted themselves to working in a process that harkens back to an earlier time when photographers utilized vintage or personally crafted cameras, processes and techniques to produce very evocative images.
While the imagery is representative of today's contemporary world, the techniques are a mixture of old and new technology.
"The trend in recent years has been toward digital images, but these four photographers have produced absolutely stunning, varied works of art using a mixture of technologies and processes," said Rob Penner, owner of 400 Square. "The images these four women have created provide proof that there are no limits in this field."
